Brief Update....

Just to assure you that we’re still here, a short update. It’s funny but with the cold weather we normally experience in Jan-Feb,  it usually means we're indoors a lot and consequently there is not much to blog about. That notwithstanding, this week was pretty normal at our house, relative to last week that is anyhow. Isabel and Anja are both feeling great again and back at school.  Lynne unfortunately was sick this week though. She nursed some very serious sinus pain all week before succumbing to a doctors visit yesterday to learn she has an infection. More antibiotics, where would we be without them.

This is a Chicago week for me and I safely made the journey this afternoon through some heavy snowfall. Hoping that it’s clear when I return on Saturday. It’s an exam weekend for me, (anybody wish to take a corporate finance exam for me on Saturday?) so I’ve been catching up on some study at a pretty cool study room Kay’s building (shown below rather poor photo taken with BB).

I trust all is well out there with you, wherever you are….take it easy. I’ll post again on Sunday.

Isabel and Lynne Home

A short post to let you all know that we've finally got our little Isabel back home. We’re also glad to have Lynne home too; it was not easy on her for three days and nights in the hospital, not very comfortable at all. Isabel is literally bouncing around the house with excitement at the moment with being home (and importantly detached from the IV line). Now for a relaxing weekend with the family.

Isabel Getting Better

First many thanks for all you well wishes over the last few days. Isabel is doing well, the swelling around her eye is decreasing and the medical staff are obviously less concerned with her situation. I have finally got my tongue around what she had, Orbital Cellulitis. We’ll get the culture results this afternoon and until then she will continue on the IV Vancomycin since they have not yet ruled out that it may be MRSA. Let me tell you, 5 yr olds do not like being tied to a bed via an IV line. They are likely to discharge her tomorrow. Lynne continues to be with her and I continue to taxi back and forth from home relieving Lynne from time to time.

In case that was not enough, I was up with Anja last night who was continuously vomiting until 5:30am. She seems to have caught the rather nasty Norovirus that has been circulating here locally. We’ll spend a good portion of today doing laundry.

Update on Isabel

She had surgery last night for over an hour, much longer than expected, mostly due to the sheer amount of infected material in her sinuses. She is doing very well today, her eye is still swollen but is starting to open again. She continues to receive IV antibiotics which she does not care for at all. We may actually be here for another day or two since they wish to have the culture results back prior to releasing her. Now all we have to do is keep her entertained…..Many thanks for all your well wishes.

Poor Isabel in Hospital

Lynne and I are sitting in the hospital, not exactly where we thought we’d be this morning when this very cold day dawned. We’re here with poor Isabel who was unexpectedly admitted to hospital at noon and will have surgery at 6 pm tonight. She had a cold over the last few days which resulted in some sinus build up. It started to hurt her on Saturday night so we took her to urgent care on Sunday. She was treated with antibiotics since they suspected it was infected. Unfortunately it has not got any better with those medications and since she is now having a lot of swelling of the sinuses around her eye, they are going to surgically drain her sinuses tonight. She's on some much stronger antibiotics but in great spirits, playing games on the iPad. Will keep you posted.

Happy 40th Birthday Brad

One of our January traditions is celebrating Brad’s birthday and we did so last night for a few hours. This one was a little extra special since it was his 40th. Happy Birthday again Brad. We’d have stayed longer but unfortunately Connor did not avail of his nap yesterday and was being a little terror by 7pm. It was better for all that we left when we did.

Warm January Day

We had amazing weather yesterday, up to 64F at one point. It was a perfect excuse to get out and about in the garden, slush around in the wet just like it was Spring. Of course I’m not foolish enough to believe that Spring may be anywhere close but I’ll take days like that anytime.
